Hayward, Alameda County
The west side of Hayward ends in marshland along San Francisco Bay. Old salt evaporation ponds have been restored to tidal wetlands at Hayward Regional Shoreline, where levee-top trails run for miles among shorebirds. Just south, the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge heads across the water, the longest bridge in California at about seven miles.
